This week through September 18th is Restaurant week in Charleston, and more restaurants than ever are participating. If you are a “foodie” this is the event for you!

This event runs twice a year and this week it features over 50 different restaurants. Charleston Restaurant Week is an opportunity for diners to take advantage of special discounted menus from Charleston area restaurants. Each restaurant will offer a price fixed menu. Diners can pick from 3 menu items.  

The items are based on the restaurants regular menu. The restaurants range from fine dining to casual to romantic. The three items you have to choose from will vary by the restaurant. Some offer appetizer, entree, dessert … while others may offer a beverage as one course. At some of restaurants 2 people will eat for the fixed price.

This is a perfect time to get up and get out of your apartment in Charleston, SC when you otherwise wouldn’t. Make reservations if possible! These restaurants will start filling up fast.

Summer vacation is now upon us in Charleston, South Carolina. Sometimes it's hard to come up with different activities to keep the kids happy and the parents from going crazy, especially when it rains. As much as your kids will tell you they can't wait for summer, the words "I'm bored," inevitably cross their lips. While children do enjoy the freedom that comes with the summer months, they still like to have a little structure to their fun. This summer, more than ever, families are trying to stick to a budget while still having fun with their kids.  Here are a few activities for your kids when it rains.

Charleston library is a great resource. They have free passes to lots of day activities and museums.  Most of them are indoor so that's always something to fall back on for a rainy day if you don't mind driving in the rainy weather to get to the museum.

Board games or card games are good for a few hours depending upon the age of a child or children.

Walking around the mall. Kids can spend hours in the Lego store and be perfectly happy building things from the bins that are available to the public in the store. Netflix subscribers have a huge cache of free family movies available for viewing, many of them perfect for a rainy day. Watch movies that are also books and make an activity seeing how they are the same and how they are different.

If it's 90 degrees outside and raining, go outside and dance in the rain with your children. Let them jump in puddles and get dirty. Let them see you jump in puddles and get dirty. Make mudpies. Catch raindrops on your tongue.

Your kids want to see you having a good time just like them.

The 2011 Original Pub Tour of Charleston began January 1^st. Its last day is February 28^th. I do not know about your experiences but I have never participated in a pub tour. The idea is to go from bar to bar, drinking and eating in each bar. Some people might have experienced this, but not as an organized event.

According to The Original Pub Tour of Charleston website, it is based on the European pub tours. The pub tour is located in historic downtown Charleston. Abberly at West Ashley Apartment Homes is just a 20 minute drive from 40 N Market St. The 2 ½ hour tours occur from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m. Appetizers are free for those participating in the pub tour. Group discounts will be available for tour participants.

We all need a place to call home but even with the real estate downturn, many people continue to think that buying a home is a good investment and a way for them to build wealth.  When times were good, this was not really the case for most people.  Wherever you choose to live, make sure it’s for the right reasons.  Owning a home can be rewarding. As you are aware of this is hurricane season so we want all of our residents here at Abberly at West Ashley Apartments to be informed and prepared for a hurricane.  The best time to prepare for a hurricane is before it comes.  That might sound funny but it’s true.

Hurricane Season: Planning Ahead

It is very important to be sure that everyone in you apartment and community knows how to respond in the event of a hurricane.  It would be a good idea to gather the whole family together for a family meeting.  Some of the topics to discuss would be:

• How to deal with personal injuries
• What to do about power outages
• Where to meet and whom to contact if you get separated
• Post emergency telephone numbers by the telephones

Gather the food supply, secure your apartment and get more of your neighbors together so that more of the community has better understanding on how to prepare for a hurricane and what to do during a hurricane.
